Do you know that Persons with Albinism (PWAs) have Rights?
A "Right" is something you have. For example, you have a right to live, a right to move abiut etc. A right is is also an ability to ask your government for help, support and protection in many instances such as in health care and education.

PWA. Rights according to the United Nations
The United Nations is a place where all governments in the world meet to make world decisions. The United Nations has reminded everyone in 2013 that persons with albinism have the right to:
- live
-be secure
-health: for example free cancer treatment and sun protection cream
-education


The United Nations also reminded everyone that our governments must:
- Protect persons with albinism and their family members
-Respond when people are attacked by punishing the attacker and taking care of those who were attacked
- Do everything they can to end discrimination against persons with albinism.

PWA rights- United Nations
The right to participate in politics and political life
According to Article 29 of the International Disability Act, States Parties shall guarantee to persons with disabilities political rights and the opportunity to enjoy them on an equal basis with others, and shall undertake the following:

(A) To ensure that persons with disabilities can effectively and fully participate in political and public life on an equal basis with othets, directly or through freely choosen representatives, including the right and opportunity for persons with disabilities to vote and be elected, inter alia, by:

i. Ensuring that voting procedures, facilities and mate rials are appropriate, accessible and easy to understan and use;

ii. Protectecting the right of persons with disabilities to vote by secret ballot in elections and public referendums without intimidation, and to stand for elections, to effectively hold office and perform all public functions at all levels of government, facilitating the ude of assistive and new technologies where appropriate.
Iii. Guaranteeing the free expression of the will of persons with disabilitied as electors and to this end, where necessary, at their request, allowing assistance in voting by a person of their own choice.

(B) To promote actively an environment in which persons with disabilities can effectively and fully participate in the conduct of public affairs, without discrimination and on an equal basis with others and encourage their participation in public affairs, including:

i. Participation in non-governmental organizations and as sociations concerened with the public and political life of the country, and in the activities and administration of political parties;

ii. Forming and joining organizations of persons with disabilitie to represent persons with disabilities at international, national, regional and local levels.

PWA Rights-African Charter
African Charter on Peoples’ and Human Right
The African Charter on Peoples’ and Human Rights (ACPHR) which is the mother of all rights at the Africa Union level protects people with albinism. Article 2 says that "every individual shall be entitled to the enjoyment of the rights and freedoms recognized and guarantted in the current.

African Resolution on Albinism
The African Commission on Human Peoples’ Rights adopted a decision aka resolution that called on States in Africa to protect persons with albinism and their families and to take concrete action to prevent discrimination against them, and bring to justice those who attack them. (Adopted on November 5, 2013 as Resolution Nom 263)
